Last year was full of great movies, popular music, and unforgettable memes. In addition to the always entertaining social media, this year has also been full of great television and captivating plot lines.

While most shows did not start in 2017, many of them continued their seasons with premiers that reeled in many returning fans as well as new viewers. One of the most popular series this year was the second season of Stranger Things.

Making its debut in 2016, the Netflix series had quickly caught the attention of viewers of all ages. With only nine episodes in season one, the series left its fans anxiously wanting more. The craving for the second season was finally satisfied with the release of season two on Halloween of this year.

Another popular show this year was Riverdale. The CW show first premiered in January of 2017 and after only a year became one the most watched shows of 2017. The show follows a group of high schoolers as they uncover Riverdale’s secrets and investigate the murder of friend Jason Blossom. While the acting is sub par, the story line captivates mainly adolescent viewers with its interesting plot twists and drama.

Grey’s Anatomy, Jane the Virgin, Supergirl, and Game of Thrones are other trending shows that have caught the eyes of TV enthusiasts. Their new seasons have quickly caught heat and kept viewers returning to their couches night after night due to their captivating plots.

Netflix has also been in the running with new Netflix originals that are bringing in more members than ever. In March of 2017 one of their greatest shows called 13 Reasons Why was released. About a girl and her journey through high school that leads to her suicide, the hard-hitting show spurred attention for Netflix unlike ever before.

Another hit this year was the continuation of Netflix original Narcos. Centered around the spread of cocaine drug cartels and law enforcement efforts to combat the cartels, the series received 8.9 stars on IMDb making it one of the highest rated shows on Netflix. It targets an older generation with its drama and superb acting.

Throughout the year, the top shows never failed to entertain its viewers and 2018 is sure to bring even more cinematic masterpieces to light.
