Friday nights, filled crowds, cheering fans, and cheer leaders chanting. However, this time it occurs on a court rather than the turf. With winter season in full effect, the cheer team looks to start a new chapter in their program.

The team consists of varsity, JV,  and competition teams. The JV team cheers for home boys and girls JV basketball games. While the varsity team will cheer for the wrestling team, and varsity girls and boys basketball games. There are 22 overall members in the winter cheer program.

Head coach Danielle DePirri is very excited for the season. Coming off a successful fall season, the winter team looks to continue the success.

“All three teams are the most enthusiastic and dedicated teams I have coached,” DePirri said. “They love cheerleading and it shows each and every day. They know how to represent Hillsborough High School in a spirited and passionate manner.”

Despite the format of the cheer seasons being so similar, there is one tournament that stands out to all: Nationals. The competition team is traveling to Walt Disney World in Florida for the National Championship in February.

All members of the cheer team are ready and excited to perform this winter. Senior Chelsea Chin is ready for the new upcoming season.

“I like winter cheer because it’s a lot different from fall,” Chin said. “This is my first year doing winter and I’m excited to cheer on basketball for the first time.”

The cheer team looks to have a successful and fun season this year. Stay up to date with results and news from this year’s competitions and events.
