Boys swim out to fast start with win over Montgomery
December 13, 2017
Last year, Hillsborough Boys Swim dropped a heartbreaker to Montgomery, losing by 17 points. This year, that was not the case at all, as Hillsborough achieved a convincing 113-57 win in their season-opening rematch.
On Dec. 12, Hillsborough put in a true team effort in their first meet of the season. Winning all but two of the events, Hillsborough certainly showed its depth across the board.
Leading the team was senior Josh Franco, who captured the 200m Individual Medley in 2:12.62, and the 100m Backstroke in 1:01.28. Franco also was a member of the winning 200m Medley relay and 400m Freestyle relay teams.
Senior Derek Kosydar also won two events for Hillsborough, taking home the 200m freestyle in 2:04.78 and the 100m butterfly in 1:03.33. Additionally, Kosydar also was a member of the winning 200m and 400m freestyle relay teams.
“In my view, this meet was a huge success and was a big indicator of what kind of season lies ahead for the team,” Kosydar said.
Additionally, two other Hillsborough swimmers won individual events: senior Evan Morgan captured the 100m freestyle in 57.95 seconds and freshman James McChesney won the 50m freestyle in 26.01 seconds.
Hillsborough also had several swimmers place in events to earn the necessary points to win.
“Our A, B and C swimmers are extremely close in speed and show how deep we are in multiple events,” Franco said.
Overall, Hillsborough showed a true team effort to start their season out on a high note, and they hope to continue the momentum over the course of this season.
