2017: The year in music

Last year was filled with music from a variety of artists who appealed to everyone from all around the world. Newly discovered artists in addition to popular artists had major breakthroughs in the world of music this past year.
Ranging from genres of Hip Hop and R&B to Pop and Country, here are the top 10 listened to songs of 2017, according to Billboard.
First, “Bodak Yellow”, by uprising artist Cardi B, was a popular hit among teenagers and young adults this past year. Despite being released later in the year, this song quickly made its way to the top of the charts.
Next, “Humble,” by a well known artist Kendrick Lamar was commonly played around the world and set high standards for many other singers and songwriters.
Calvin Harris’s summer hit “Slide,” featuring Frank Ocean and Migos, was a song worked on for the majority of 2017 and was very popular when. Ocean has made claims 2018 will be an even bigger year for him and his fans.
The fourth most popular song of 2017 was “XO Tour Life” recorded by young artist Lil Uzi Vert. This song about the ups and downs of life appealed greatly to young music listeners.
Kendrick Lamar appears for a second time on the Top 10 with “DNA”. His talent was displayed within this song where he poetically combines words to create music.
Being a different genre of music, Selena Gomez’ pop song, “Bad Liar” made it to No. 6 within the top 10 due to its catchy and rhythmic tune that appealed to listeners.
Although these last four songs round out the list, songs “Green Light” by Lorde, “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, “New Rules” by Dua Lipa, and “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles were nevertheless major hits last calendar year.
The songs previously listed are only a few of the expressions from enormously talented artists hitting airwaves this past year. It is safe to say that 2017 was a year of great music and the trend is likely to continue into the new year..
