At 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 20, Hillsborough girls swim competed in the biggest meet of their season: the Skylands. With an already successful season, the team went into the event ready to take on fierce competition.

Season wins against Mount St. Mary, Montgomery, Ridge, and Hunterdon Central filled the team with confidence and the hope to come out on top.

Overall, Hillsborough girls swim placed third out of the 16 towns competing with only Bridgewater-Raritan and Pingry placing higher. With a final score of 157.4, the team felt content with their performance.

“I am beyond proud of us for doing our best and giving it all we got,” junior Sankya Parvatrao said. “I’m so happy to be apart of such an encouraging and supportive team that feels like a family more than anything else.”

Throughout the conference championship, there were many key swimmers who finished with incredible times. Among them were Alexandra Temple, Jordan McChesney, Haley Tevnan and Danielle D’Ambrosio. The four girls finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.11. The four also finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay as well.

Individually, McChesney was another major swimmer finishing third in the 100-year freestyle and third again in the 50 yard-freestyle.

Overall, the Skyland Conference was a great opportunity for Hillsborough girls swim to show neighboring towns what they were made of. Their next meet is today at 4:00 p.m versus Pingry.
