Yarasheski named Educational Services Professional of the year
February 6, 2018
For the second time in three years, HHS guidance counselor Brian Yarasheski has been recognized as Educational Services Professional of the year. After 36 years in education, Yarasheski deserves to be rewarded for continuing to find joy in his job every year.
“The most interesting aspect of my job is that I never have the same day twice and I never know what is going to walk into my office on any given day,” Yarasheski said. “This makes my job exciting and never boring, while keeping me active in, and cognizant of, the various facets of our school.”
More commonly known as “Mr. Y,” the counselor is admired by his many students for being honest and accessible. He creates an open environment for students to reach out with questions regarding scheduling, classes, and college planning. Through some of the most stressful times in a student’s life, Mr. Y is there to lend a helping hand.
Yarasheski claims that the most rewarding part of his job is having the opportunity to help a variety of people, even beyond his caseload of students. There are occasions in which he can help teachers, other staff, parents, and families, all of which make him feel lucky to have the chance to collaborate with such dedicated people.
“The fact that I have won this award for the second time in three years makes me feel more appreciated and truly honored,” Yarasheski said. “Honestly, it is humbling – there are many fabulous professionals in this building that are just, if not more, deserving of this recognition.”
If you come across Mr. Y in the halls, be sure to thank him for all the work he has done for HHS and congratulate him on his achievements!
