Last year’s Super Bowl performance by Lady Gaga started with her dangling from the top of NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Seconds later she jumped. Her 13-minute performance at Super Bowl LI left the crowd with open mouths and in complete awe. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Justin Timberlake.

On Sunday, Timberlake took center stage at the Super Bowl LII Halftime Show. After last year’s performance by Lady Gaga, along with other memorable shows of the past, Timberlake had large shoes to fill. The 37-year old music artist started the show with high expectations but unfortunately did not live up to the standards.

Timberlake’s performance started with energy and potential, but as the performance progressed, it took a quick turn for the worse. Timberlake’s singing, of which there was little, was adequate. He definitely has talent and showed it, but the fact of the matter is that he barely sung at all. The majority of his performance was his dancing, that was also less than spectacular.

Timberlake also had no special guest appearances. For a small portion of his show the artist paid tribute to music genius Prince but it was still received with harsh criticism. The show got boring real fast and offered nothing special. There were little risks, little singing, and was an overall average show.

Some might say it wasn’t atrocious, which it wasn’t, but it also wasn’t a performance for the books.

All together, Timberlake’s performance was underwhelming, boring, and consisted of more dancing than actual singing. Next year’s Super Bowl will hopefully make up for this year’s disappointment that was Timberlake’s Halftime show.
