Every year, on the first Sunday of February, there occurs a clash between two teams of titans, two fierce competitors battling for glory on the field. However, these teams are not comprised of overgrown, sweaty men attempting to mangle each other. Instead, two teams of adorable baby animals clash in the Puppy Bowl.

This year, the 14th Annual Puppy Bowl aired on Feb. 4, 2018, on Animal Planet. Two teams, named Team Fluff and Team Ruff, featured a total of 35 puppies competing for gridiron greatness.

Several puppies took home honors for their performances in the competition. Bear, a 16-week old American Staffordshire Terrier/foxhound mix, was named the Bissell MVP for his strong showing.

However, the Puppy Bowl is not all fun and games: it also aids many animal shelters across America. All of the puppies featured in the game are adoptable through various rescue centers. For instance, at the time of filming, Bear was available for adoption through Virginia Beach SPCA, but has since been adopted into a loving home.

In the end, Team Fluff, led by Bear with two touchdowns, edged out Team Ruff by a score of 52 to 47 to take home the Lombarky trophy.

For the first time, Animal Planet also aired a Dog Bowl. The rules are similar to the Puppy Bowl, but this competition features older dogs in shelters or animal rescues to help get them adopted. In the Dog Bowl, 50 adult dogs competed on Team Tails and Team Paws for the ultimate prize.

So, regardless of age, it is clear that the competition to watch on the first Sunday of every February is the Puppy Bowl.
