Girls basketball got the big win in East Brunswick.

The Hillsborough varsity girls basketball clinched a birth to the state tournament, and they were thrilled to say the least.

Despite entering the tournament as a 16 seed, the girls still found a way to win their opener on Tuesday. The team upset top seeded East Brunswick on the road.

The team already faced East Brunswick earlier in a scrimmage as well as in their annual holiday tournament. Although they lost both of those games, the team was proud of how they played and felt like they were not overmatched.

With their third opportunity against East Brunswick, head coach Ian Progin made sure that his team was ready to go with plenty of schemes in addition to a strong gameplan.

Sophomore Dani Pescatore led the Raiders in scoring, racking up 14 points and knocking down two key three pointers. The Voice’s own Elissa Nsenkyire added 10 points for the girls.

The girls hope to continue their winning ways at Hunterdon Central tonight.
