The boys lacrosse team improved to 4-1 and are currently riding a three game win streak. The latest wins were a 12-11 victory over East Brunswick and a 7-6 win versus North Hunterdon. Both games were fueled by late game heroics by seniors Chris Santa Barbara and Carson Venis respectively.

On Saturday, the team faced off against East Brunswick. After possessing a commanding lead for much of the game, East Brunswick scored five goals in the fourth quarter to tie the score. Santa Barbara came to his team’s aid, tallying his fifth goal of the game with four seconds remaining. That goal would be the difference, as the Raiders would win 12-11. Senior Tim Yost and freshman Johnny Moon scored two goals apiece, while senior Jack Casey and freshman Loukas Ganas added a goal apiece.

The next game, the Raiders took on North Hunterdon. Despite being down for much of the game, the Raiders had a high scoring fourth quarter to force overtime. In overtime, Venis flung a shot past the opposing goaltender for the Hillsborough win. Santa Barbara would add two goals, and Yost, junior Prescott Quackenbush, and Casey added one goal apiece.

“It [scoring the winning goal] was one of the best feelings in the world,” Venis said. “ And to top it off, the other team was trash talking, so it felt even better.”

The team will hit the field again on Thursday against Moorestown.
