On Mar. 23, the juniors of Hillsborough High School were given an assembly on dating violence by Rutgers Scream Theater, which was made possible by Project Safety.

Project Safety is a club at HHS that places a focus on putting an end to violence in relationships. The characters that the actors portrayed each exhibited different behaviors when confronted with a situation of violence among their friend group, providing the junior class a with some perspective on how toxic situations unfold.

Adding to the unique experience, the assembly was very interactive. After the performance audience members were given opportunities to ask questions directed at the characters.

Junior Lukas Sulskis spoke on what he saw. “It was scary to see how things in a relationship can turn bad,” Sulskis said. “But it’s also a wake up call for signs of violence to watch out for.”

Educating students on the symptoms of dating violence and what to do if you or someone you care about is subject to dating violence is something that HHS Guidance Department is dedicated to.
