Sophomores Rush Into Spirit Night, Finish 3rd
May 21, 2018
This year, the class of 2020 with the sweet theme of Sophomore Sugar Rush fell short of first place, placing third. With great efforts it is evident that the hard work truly did pay off in comparison to the standings last year.
Additionally, there was a significant amount of participation from the sophomore grade ranging from choreographers for the dance to those who exquisitely painted the mural and filmed the movie.
One of the most challenging parts is assembling enough kids to perform the dance. Each grade had roughly 40 kids participating, and getting everyone to cooperate can be one of the hardest parts. The choreographers have to juggle creating the dance, teaching it, dancing for their own respective studios, and balancing school and other extracurriculars.
“Organizing the dance was very hard,” sophomore choreographer Nicolette Moleski said. “You need to have a lot of patience and be open to everyone else’s ideas in order for it to come together as smoothly as possible.”
Choreographing, teaching, and learning a ten minute dance with less than a month to prepare is a task that only few can perform successfully. Luckily the sophomore grade is filled with tremendous talent and work ethic making that assignment easy and effortless.
“It made me feel very proud because we put in at least 30 hours of work,” Moleski said. “I know how hard everyone worked and to see it all come together was very rewarding.”
Although the dance received 3rd place, the passion and excitement coming from the sophomores deserved first place. The highlight of the results included placing 1st for the commons display, and 2nd for the mural. Despite the video improving from last year, it placed last along with the chant. The shirt placed 3rd, and the results were scattered for the remaining events.
Overall, it was a successful night for the class of 2020, and they will look to come back even stronger next year.
