Every year, musicians and singers from Hillsborough High School pool their talents and expertise to put on a masterpiece of acoustic performances. This year, the talent conglomerated at HHS Unplugged to impress and amaze the crowd.

Unplugged took place at 7:00 p.m. on May 29 and lasted for over two hours of performances. The performers used guitars, pianos, and their voices to create sweet harmonies within the auditorium.

In a special performance, two HHS alumni from the class of 2009 came back to perform. Marissa Rappisi played the guitar and Vinita LaStella sang two different sings. Their cover of “Dear Mr. President,” originally by P!nk, was particularly impressive, receiving a near standing ovation.

Unplugged regulars Raphael George and Josh Matthew both performed twice in their last opportunity as seniors, performing together once and each singing his own song while playing an accompanying instrument.

Together, the two performed a stripped down version of “Shake it Off” with both playing guitars. Matthew also performed an original while playing the guitar, and George closed the show by singing a cover of “Mary Mary, Quite Contrary” by Jamie Foxx while playing the piano.

“Josh Matthew is the most talented person I’ve ever met,” senior Dianna Cacace said.

As always, history teacher Bob Fenster opened the show, accompanied by Wayne Szabo, with a cover of “Memories” by Panic! At the Disco. Fenster went on to cover “Crazy Comes to Town” by the Soogs while playing guitar.

“Unplugged was an amazing personal way to see my peers shine,” Cacace said. ‘There are people you would never expect to be able to sing or be artistic who do absolutely amazing things at Unplugged.”

Overall, the night served as a fun and productive evening for all who attended and performed.
