On Sept. 4, the boys soccer season got underway with a most impressive 2-0 win over local powerhouse Hunterdon Central. Four days later, on Sept. 8, the Raiders defeated the Woodbridge Warriors, 3-2.

In their game against Watchung Hills, the Raiders went into half time losing 1-0. They climbed back in the final 20 minutes to take the lead with a score of 2-1. Before the Raiders could feel secure about their win, Watchung managed to tie the score in the final minutes of the second half. The game went into overtime, eventually resulting in a 2-2 tie. For the Raiders it was the only blip on the radar of a season that now sees the team 6-0-1.

For the first season in three years, the team has not opened with three consecutive losses. With two wins and one tie, boys soccer remains unbeaten and definitely has a promising season ahead of them.

“I feel like this year’s team has a lot more upside,” senior Justin Zinger said. “We definitely have the potential to do great things.”

Last season, boys soccer finished with a record of seven wins, seven losses, and one tie. At the rate that they’re winning this year, they are on track to beat last season’s record.

In Saturday’s win over Warren Hills, the team took home another victory, remaining undefeated. Their record now stands at six wins and one tie after blanking Perth Amboy 7-0. Senior Mike Fazio led the squad with two goals and two assists.

In his fourth and final year of playing for the high school soccer team, Captain Justin Dominique shared his thoughts on being a role model to underclassmen.

“I’m most excited about being a senior,” Dominique said. “It’s crazy to now be the guy people look up to.”

The Raiders are off to a great start and will hit the field again today to host Franklin before heading to Trenton Central on Friday.
