Boro football improves to 3-0 with win over Franklin
September 21, 2018
The Hillsborough Raiders took the Franklin Warriors by storm on Sept. 14, with an end score of 42-37. The team currently has a record of 3-0 and will hopefully keep their winning streak going throughout their season.
Hillsborough started the game strong and quickly gained a lead of 14 points in the first quarter. The tension was high, but the Raiders were confident that they were going to gain another victory. After all, they were already coming off of two wins. Their first victory was against Colonia, 27-25, which was sealed by the junior kicker Franklin Wasserman’s game-winning field goal in the final seconds. The other win came against rival Bridgewater Panthers by a 35-24 final score.
The Raiders had all the support they needed from their school to take on the tough competition. Over one hundred students showed up to show their love for the team at Franklin High School. Everyone was decked out in red, white, and blue, which was organized by the school’s Boro Super Fans.
“Football is just one of those things,” junior Allison Gallinardo said. “You could have no idea what’s going on, but just being there on Friday nights, you feel an atmosphere full of energy and school spirit. I never miss a game.”
Both junior Justin Dietrich and senior Matt Popadiuk scored a touchdown during the game, while sophomore Sean Levonaitis scored four, bringing his total up to ten touchdowns this year. Wasserman made all seven extra points during the game against Franklin, maintaining his success rate at 100%.
The Hillsborough Raiders are scheduled next to play the Hunterdon Central Red Devils at Hillsborough High School on Friday, Sept. 21. The game starts at 7:00 p.m, and becoming a fan is always encouraged.
