Seniors honored at field hockey senior night
October 22, 2018
The Hillsborough field hockey team was once again able to add a victory to their record. This time, it was against visiting North Hunterdon on Senior Night.
The Lady Raiders were able to put in two goals, scored by junior Payton Altman and sophomore Olivia Halverson. Senior Nicole Fortunato also contributed to the goals as she was able to assist one of them.
Hillsborough successfully shutout North Hunterdon with a score of 2-0. Senior Megan Kirby was able to make 12 saves to ensure the shutout.
Senior Night is the celebration of the senior players on the team, and it also marks the beginning of the end of the season. Seniors are often emotional knowing that their four years of a sport is coming to a close. The win that Hillsborough was able to pull off definitely made the closing of the season more uplifting.
The seniors on the team are Fortunato and Kirby, Amanda Donnelly, Gina Dorsey, Brooke McCormick, Kacey Klacik, Cassidy Bayer, Mia Mazuch, and Kat Halle. During the ceremony, each senior was announced on the field before the game, accompanied by their parents. Bayer was happy to have a game dedicated to her class.
“I was excited overall just to finally have my senior night after four years,” Bayer said. “It’s always a good game when you play under the lights.”
Senior Night is not only a big night for the seniors, but it can also be an emotional night for their teammates, for they know the seniors, some of their role models, will be leaving soon. The seniors on the team have set a great example for the rest of the team to look up to.
“The seniors are really hard working and they are great role models for the underclassmen,” junior Jenna Kosydar said. “We have a lot of fun as a team.”
Although their record is not what they expected, the field hockey team is happy with their win and excited to continue their season and play out the last few games with their senior players.
