Boro Gymnastics comes out on top again. The student body has been closely following the gymnastics team and all its victories. This past week, Boro Gymnastics traveled to Basking Ridge to show their excellence, once again. The faces of the judges after watching the Boro Gymnasts was comical as they were in awe with the professional and graceful performance. There were very few errors in the girls routines which surprised not only the judges but the audience as well.

Hillsborough dominated the events, to say the least. The Lady Raiders finished with a 108.1, while Ridge’s final score was 100.95. A gymnastics team outscoring their opponents by eight points is very rare; the difference usually comes down to mere decimal points. Junior Haley Mandell demonstrated her vault skills, placing first in the event with a 9.35, while classmate Samantha Ringel placed first on the uneven bars with a 9.1. Our senior athletes added to the victory as well; Renee Kinzler placed first on the floor exercise with a 9.4, while Emma Thompson placed first on the balance beam with a 9.35. As we racked up points, only three Ridge gymnasts placed during the entire meet. In the month of October Boro Gymnastics has placed seventh among the rest of the New Jersey Schools.

It was refreshing to see the team laughing and joking around with each other. One could visibly see that these young women were ecstatic to be competing, with their best friends by their sides. The girls all huddled together before the meet, in order to motivate one another; a smile was on every one of the gymnasts’ faces, both performing and on the sidelines.

The sound of constant cheering filled the room every time a Boro Gymnast finished her routine. The cheering of fans and support from coaches and teammates is what these girls feed off of. They use the energy in the room to fuel their performances.

“I love competing with my team,” senior Clare Hanlon said. “The atmosphere that we bring to meets is always so fun and I look forward to my next few competitions. “
