Ending the season 9-9-1, the Lady Raiders accomplished all of their set goals and then some.

The girls finished fourth in the conference behind top ranked teams such as Bridgewater-Raritan and Ridge but were obvious contenders. Seniors Emily Washbourn and Victoria Minutillo led the team to the second round of the state tournament. The Lady Raiders advanced past the opening thanks to a dominating, 4-0 victory over Hightstown in front of their home crowd before suffering a heartbreaking, 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manalapan.

“We were disappointed,” Washbourn said. “We had no doubt that we could have gone farther in states.”

Head coach Lee Ann Best was pleased with her team’s performance this year.

“We showed everyone in the conference that we could compete,” Best said.

With the 2015 season  coming to a close, fans of the team might ask–what will happen to the BGS team in 2016?

Losing eight seniors, the girls will certainly suffer key losses. The defensive unit which kept the team in several tight contests will have to do without the services of Washbourn, Minutillo, and Kate Swetz in 2016.

Best strongly believes that the team will be once again successful in the upcoming season, despite losing three stalwart defenders.

“We held our own against Ridge without some of our star seniors,” Best said. “That gave me hope that we will have another great season next year.”

Olivia Panagos, Carly Swetz, and Lauren Mazich are the players to watch for next year. The three should be more than capable of filling the void left by the likes of Washbourn, Minutillo, and Kate Swetz.

For now, both seniors and underclassmen can take pride in the way they competed during a trying season.
