Athletic Director Michael Davis relies on work ethic and organization in new position
December 7, 2018
The Hillsborough High School athletics program does not operate without lots of hard work and diligent planning. There is an inordinate amount of work that goes into the construction of every sports-related event. Michael Davis, the Hillsborough High School athletic director, handles many responsibilities, from transportation and scheduling to choosing the most fair and qualified referees.
Because of his work ethic, Davis is by far the most qualified person for the title of Athletic Director—he started as a physical education teacher at Auten Road Intermediate School, prior to holding the position of Athletic Director at Hillsborough Middle School. In addition to abundant experience, Davis exhibited qualities that Hillsborough’s Board of Education deemed worthy to promote him to the position of Athletic Director at the high school. Davis is an impactful administrator because he has grown alongside his students. Now, Davis gets to watch the 9-year old students he taught in gym, excel on and off the field as young adults. This man has truly been there from the start, creating an unbreakable bond with the student body.
Imagine having to be responsible for every team, regardless of season, gender or rank. Ensuring that every sport receives the same amount of attention, Davis has executed his position as athletic director with nothing but absolute composure. Taking his job quite seriously, Davis loves facing new challenges head on and learning innovative ways to solve daily problems.
“The majority of the day is focused on time management and tackling the most time sensitive issues as they come up,” Davis said. “Every day there is something new, I always have a to do list each morning and inevitably that list gets put on the back burner.”
With the weight of the school lying on his back, he continues to do the seemingly impossible.Because he is often presented with many new obstacles, Davis goes into work everyday almost blind. Therefore, if you ever pass Davis in the hall, do not hesitate to show him your appreciation.
If there is any individual that our school depends on, it is Michael Davis. Over the years, he has established a professional persona, yet is one of the most approachable and humble people to walk to halls of HHS. Although he looks at his fellow Raiders as family, he has been married for ten years with two young girls. He and his wife promote an active and healthy lifestyle for their beautiful family.
While he was young, Davis became passionate about playing basketball and baseball, aspiring to one day become a professional athlete. Having been involved in sports, Davis was able to find his true identity, and eventually his career path.
Outside of taking care of everyone else’s well being, Davis is extremely focused on his personal health. With the little free time Davis has, he runs multiple miles a day. Year round, he trains for various marathons, influencing HHS athletes to stay in shape and focus on achieving their goals.
