As girls swim entered this season, the team knew expectations were high. A perennial conference and state powerhouse, the team felt the pressure to perform, in spite of major losses to graduation.

And perform they did, steamrolling private school Mount Saint Mary on Dec. 6 at the Hillsborough YMCA. With a final score of 103 -67, a clear margin of victory was established between the two teams.

Leading the charge for Hillsborough was senior Jordan McChesney. McChesney took home top prize in the 50 freestyle, in a time of 25.56 seconds. McChesney also contributed to Hillsborough’s two relay wins.

Along with sophomore Maya Bhuyan, senior Sankya Parvatrao, and sophomore Danielle D’Ambrosio, McChesney raced to a time of 1:48.84 in 200 freestyle relay. Additionally, the other relay team of juniors Marissa Choe, Sydney Tran, Skylar Ward, and McChesney combined to win the 200 Medley Relay in 1:56.07.

“I love competing with my team, with everyone coming together on the pool deck to cheer for each other and creating positive vibes,” Parvatrao said. “Starting off with a win against Mount Saint Mary’s built good morale and we are hoping to continue this streak.”

Two other Boro swimmers also raced to individual wins. D’Ambrosio captured the 100 freestyle in 55.71 seconds, while junior Katelyn Battagliese won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.65.

As they head deeper into a difficult schedule in a tough conference, the team will continue working to continue their strong winning tradition.
