Since March is now upon us, Saint Patrick’s day festivities are in full swing! One of the numerous activities that you can participate in to get in the spirit is Somerville’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade gathers locals from all over the area year after year. Here is some information you need to know before you go:

The parade will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 10 and will run on West Main Street from Grove Street to Mountain Avenue. The 2019 Grand Parade Marshall is James Walsh; his family is from Ireland and he is ecstatic to have been given this opportunity to represent his heritage.

On parade day, select Somerville restaurants will be offering specials beginning at noon including Alfonso’s, Central Pizzeria & Restaurant, Mannion’s Irish Pub, and McCormick’s Pub & Verve.

As for who will be participating in the parade, marchers include local fire departments, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, American Legions, rescue squads, political officials, and various other organizations.

This is the 27th year the parade will be held. The first St. Patrick’s Day Parade on record in Somerville was held in 1984, beginning at Duke Island Park and traveling to downtown Somerville.

For parking, there are plenty of places such as the side streets north of West Main Street. In addition to the public parking lots downtown, the Desapio Parking Deck is also open on parade day to the public.

If you are looking to get in the St. Patrick’s day spirit be sure to check out the parade. Numerous activities will be happening, so it is sure to be a fun filled day. Bring your friends and family for a great time!
