Surfboards, Sand, and Wavves. You may be thinking about next summer already but Nathan Williams and his bandmates just released V, their fifth album. Williams’s addiction and depression from the past years influenced the songwriting in the upcoming album. Tracks such as ¨Heavy Metal Detox¨, ¨Way Too Much¨, and ¨Flamezesz¨ give the soft and mooshy indie band a sharp, punk sound. In the past, Wavves would start off slower paced numbers with depressed and sometimes sinister lyrics. However, the newest releases are now beginning with bitter guitar riffs and relentless drumming, reminding me of tracks from Adolescents. Leading up to the release of the album, Wavves will be on a world tour to showcase new tracks and hits from past albums. There is even buzz of the album being recognized as one of the best albums of the year. Many fans considered Williams’s last album, Afraid of Heights, was going to be the downfall of Wavves. The new album acts as a comeback masterpiece that fans have been patiently waiting for.
