First Latin American artist to headline Metlife Stadium
June 11, 2019
After only having been a solo artist for about ten years, 37-year-old Romeo Santos made his fourth album, Utopia, one for the books. The “King of Bachata” has made a name for himself after having been the lead singer of the world-renowned Bachata band, Aventura. The No. 1 album has made it onto the top seller list with Latino USA claiming the album is “a love letter” to the genre.
Santos continues to make history by becoming the first Latin American performer in venue history to headline Metlife Stadium. The concert will be held on September 21, and the performance will be a part of the Golden tour for his previous album.
“I’ve never performed in such a prestigious venue, not even when I was part of Aventura or in my solo career,” he had mentioned in an Instagram video. Having sold out two Yankee stadium shows in 2014, as well as Madison Square Garden three times, he feels an immense honor not only to fill 80,000 seat,s but to also adequately represent his heritage.
After having been separated a decade, Santos brought the band back together in a single titled “Immortal”, also to be featured on the album. Having this reunion happen at the time that it did was very crucial for both Santos as well as the rest of the band members. Their first song together in ten years made it to No. 1 on the Latin Airplay. The rather romantic song speaks of a love as a bond that can’t be broken no matter the number of trials and tribulations, signifying the strength of their friendship as the members pursue their solo projects.
Though the Aventura reunion was bittersweet, the fans are left with the question of whether there will be another, hopefully in the near future following the success of the album. Regardless, following his track record with concerts, be sure to secure your seats for the Metlife Stadium show soon as they are going fast, along with limited VIP packages!
