Raider girls lacrosse finished a great season
June 12, 2019
As the school year comes to a close, so does the spring sports season. This past spring, the girls on the lacrosse team achieved many things as a team as well as individually.
The team finished their season at 13 wins and 7 loses, which was enough to push them into the postseason where they made it to the semifinals of states; the girls also finished third in the Delaware Division of the Skyland conference with 2 wins and 2 loses in conference play.
This year, four-year varsity midfielder Gabriella Vangeli scored her 100th career goal. The team is graduating Vangeli as well as five other seniors: Cassidy Bayer, Brooke McCormick, Jayna Moore, Lisa Ross, and Kendal Smith.
“Hillsborough lacrosse taught me team chemistry and how to work with people at different levels,” Vangeli said. “It’s a lot more personal than a club.”
Vangeli will be continuing her academic and athletic careers at Monmouth University next year, while Smith will be playing at Hofstra University, and Ross will be going to Saint Joe’s University.
The rest of the team has a very young core and finishing at 13-7 is not a bad start for this new era of GLax.
“I think that they’ll do well in the future,” Vangeli said. “The team is made up of a young and talented group that has so much potential and coach Dunphey will do a great job helping them key in on their skills.”
